Jake Shimabukuro reimagines how a ukulele can be played. His innovative approach to the ukulele has drawn comparisons to such musical titans as Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis.
Far from the laidback-easy-strumming-sitting-on-the-beach-drinking-a-Mai-Tai music one might expect, Shimabukuro’s lightning-fast fingerstyle playing has put unique spins on beloved classics like Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and The Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.”
While he might be best known for his covers, he is an accomplished composer and collaborator, recording with the likes of Jack Johnson and Yo-Yo Ma.
