African-American spirituals are a critical part of the United States’ musical heritage. Many of these coded Civil War-era songs also conveyed vital information related to the Underground Railroad, including routes and navigational strategies, and boosted morale for people escaping slavery.
Michelle Mayne-Graves and her Lifeline Quartet use their incredible voices to celebrate these songs in a powerful performance that channels centuries of struggle and perseverance.
UpStage is an intimate, cabaret-style setting on the Phillips Center Mainstage. The 7:00 p.m. seatings include heavy hors d’oeuvres and cash bar; 9:00 p.m. seatings include desserts and cash bar.
