LIVING LEGACY OF RAVI SHANKAR
Sitar player and composer Anoushka Shankar is a singular figure in the Indian classical and progressive world music scenes, garnering prestigious accolades. She has earned six Grammy nominations as well as credit as an Asian Hero by Time Magazine, and she is the youngest and first woman to receive a British House of Commons Shield.
Deeply rooted in the Indian classical music tradition, Anoushka studied from the age of nine exclusively under her late father, Ravi Shankar, making her professional debut at the age of 13. A musical trailblazer, at age 20 she became the first Indian woman and youngest-ever nominee in the World Music category at the Grammys. With her live performances, Shankar reflects on the spiritual and musical journey that has brought her here; drawing on classical ragas, referencing some of the experiences she’s had along the way, and experimenting with new ideas in a cross-cultural dialogue that showcases the versatility of the sitar across musical genres.
