Hapa’s Pan-Polynesian sound is a blend of the music of Portuguese fishermen, ancient chants, traditional church music of early missionaries and American acoustic folk/rock.
A 90-minute program that not only memorializes the events of 9/11, but also offers audience members a chance to reflect on the tragedy in a way that offers both healing and hope.
A series of songs and stories that creates a poetic and political portrait of contemporary American culture, and addresses the current climate of fear, obsession with information and security.

Worlds of Fingerman. With a name like that, who wouldn’t be intrigued? As one of the oddest, and yet most fascinating, performances I have ever seen, Gaia Teatro’s “Worlds of Fingerman” made its American debut at the Phillips Center Friday night; and I can honestly say that Fingerman definitely rocked my world. A soaring hand-made bird opens the show, flapping its wings to introduce masterminds behind the body art, dressed in all-black, showing nothing but face and of course hands. Then…Fingerman was born.
The audience followed his life as he faced the different elements of the natural world by walking a tight rope, swimming under water, finding fiery love, conquering the earth and finding his way with his loyal “burrito” buddy. The performers’ positioning, movement and control of their hands was remarkable. Such precision and such detail. There were points were I forgot Fingerman was the creation of someone hands, and himself not a real creation.
Finally, the audience cheered, but was delighted to view two extra shorts, one of a funny baby and the other a lonely John Lennon fan. Overall, Worlds of Fingerman was one of the best shows I have ever seen, hands down. I truly hope that they add Gainesville to the end of their North American tour, so that other students can see such creativity at work. I’m telling you, you would love it!
