GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Florida Performing Arts will present 13 performances in March, highlighted by a Chick Corea and Béla Fleck collaboration on March 20 and a free film screening of “The Last Flight of Petr Ginz” on March 28.
Corea and Fleck return to the Phillips Center – with a combined 34 Grammy Awards – for this historic duet between piano and banjo.
Free tickets for the screening of “The Last Flight of Petr Ginz” will be available noon March 28 from the Phillips Center Box Office. The film highlights the life of a Jewish boy who wrote novels and short stories; produced drawings and paintings; and edited a magazine before perishing at Auschwitz.
UFPA’s March schedule features strong classical programming, including Italy’s Interpreti Veneziani, March 5, University Auditorium; England’s Academy of St Martin in the Fields, March 13; and from Germany – Leipzig String Quartet, March 17, University Auditorium and Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, March 23.
The public can vote on which Beethoven program the Leipzig String Quartet will play by casting their ballot at http://bit.ly/TvSNUy. Voting closes March 11.
Other March performances include Irish quintet Lúnasa, March 1, University Auditorium; Apollo’s Fire’s musical voyage “Come to the River,” March 3, University Auditorium; a pre-recorded Specticast presentation of George Bizet’s “Carmen”; folk superstars David Holt and Josh Goforth, March 21, Squitieri Studio Theatre; New York’s Mark Morris Dance Group, March 22; legendary guitarists John Williams and John Etheridge, March 24, University Auditorium; and One Night of Queen, performed by Gary Mullen and The Works, March 30.
Tickets range from $15-50, depending on the show. All performances are at the Phillips Center, unless otherwise noted.
UF student tickets are currently on sale and available for $10 to all March shows with the exception of Academy of St Martin in the Fields and Chick Corea and Béla Fleck, which are $15, and “The Last Flight of Petr Ginz,” which is a free event.
