Glamour. Romance. Musical Fantasyland…THE OPERA SHOW presents beautiful music exquisitely performed in a spectacular and exuberant 21st century showcase.
Broadway’s Tony Award-winning musical-comedy phenomenon takes you back to 1962 Baltimore, as 16-year-old Tracy Turnblad sets out to dance her way onto TV’s most popular show.
After an exciting debut at the Phillips Center in 2005 and a sold-out performance in 2006, the Soweto Gospel Choir returns to their “U.S. home” once again. The ensemble’s mix of tribal, traditional and popular African gospel makes for a moving, awe-inspiring and unforgettable evening for the entire family.

Did you know…
Yamato was founded by Masa Ogawa in 1993 in Nara, “the land of Yamato,” which is said to be the birthplace of Japanese culture.
Since its formation almost a decade ago, Yamato has played to more than a million people, giving more than 1,000 performances in about a dozen different countries.
Yamato travels with several dozen large and small drums including an O-daiko made from a huge tree over 400-years-old.
Yamato’s performances are infused with the idea that the drumbeat, like the heartbeat, is the very pulse of life.

What a wonderful performance! I also enjoyed the pre-performance talk. We arrived early and lucked into being able to attend it.
Yamoto was just spectacular and certainly will go again if they come back to town. Regretted that it was such a small audience and hope the performers understood that it was Thanksgiving eve and many students had left town.

This was the second time seeing Yamato at the Phillips Center. The performance was phenomenal! The energy in the room is electric. I wouldn’t miss it! Thank you for bringing them back to UF.

Yamato was a thoroughly enjoyable performance, one that Kathy and I would see again! We arrived early and were fortunate enough to attend the pre-performance talk by the assistant band director. He was very informative and interesting. This added to our enjoyment of Yamato. So glad we decided to attend.

The preformance was spectacular. I especially enjoyed the little comedic parts they had throughout the act. As the assistant band director had suggested, they are more contemporary compared to Kodo. I look forward to both groups returning to the Phillips Center

My wife & I enjoyed Yamato very much. What power, what energy. The bigger drums created a primitive atmosphere….I could almost see King Kong on stage swaying to the beat! We will definitely be back for more Yamato. Thanks
