Glamour. Romance. Musical Fantasyland…THE OPERA SHOW presents beautiful music exquisitely performed in a spectacular and exuberant 21st century showcase.
Broadway’s Tony Award-winning musical-comedy phenomenon takes you back to 1962 Baltimore, as 16-year-old Tracy Turnblad sets out to dance her way onto TV’s most popular show.
After an exciting debut at the Phillips Center in 2005 and a sold-out performance in 2006, the Soweto Gospel Choir returns to their “U.S. home” once again. The ensemble’s mix of tribal, traditional and popular African gospel makes for a moving, awe-inspiring and unforgettable evening for the entire family.

Did you know…
The Ten Tenors are also known affectionately as “TTT.”
TTT’s biggest break came in 2002, when The Ten Tenors were invited to perform at the German entry selection event in anticipation of the Eurovision Song Contest. Within hours, they had sold out an entire tour and were well on their way to becoming one of the most successful touring acts in Germany. Touring European and Asian countries followed and in 2003 they made their U.S. debut. These days, The Ten Tenors circle the globe 10 months of the year, performing around 250 shows on five different continents around the world.
TTT got its start when ten young opera students from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in Brisbane, Australia, banded together to form what was then largely a corporate act, the group’s performances were few and far between and were essentially just a part-time affair, providing the members with a bit of money to help them through their studies.
TTT performs a diverse repertoire including Queen standards, a Bee Gees medley, and ABBA’s Dancing Queen, and switch gears mid-set performing opera tunes and native Australian tunes (including Men at Work). Their most recent album Here’s to the Heroes is heavily influenced by the music of John Barry.
Are you this performer? Have you seen this performance? Do you have information to share about this event? Submit your comments below. Our staff will post your comments on a regular basis.

Love the Tenors! Bring them back next year and I’ll take them canoeing on the Santa Fe River! Perfect holiday fare.

Fantastic show. Anyone who missed it, really missed a great event.

We had never seen the Ten Tenors prior to their performance at The Phillips Center last Tuesday evening, as a matter of fact I had never heard OF them. They were awesome, they have enough interaction within the group and with the audience to keep you attentive as they move around the stage performing. Their voices created a volume that was spectacular and so moving. What a pleasant and entertaining experience.

The Ten Tenors was a great show. All 8 of us really enjoyed it and would go again in the future if they came back.

The program was great. We had quite a group from Oak Hammock–two full buses!!!. Everyone enjoyed the event. The only negative comments were about the lights. They said that the lights were blinding and annoying —wished that they had been omitted. Elizabeth Mann

Hello! I loved this group and how gorgeously their voices blended, as well as how creatively arranged some of their pieces were. I will say that I was, by far, most moved by the opera pieces and the ballads. While the 80’s and disco medleys were entertaining, I thought their extraordinary talent, both as individuals and a group, was somewhat “wasted”, since I’ve heard less accomplished groups do similar numbers with equal entertainment value. That said, they are incredibly talented and I was glad to have seen the show. I definitely enjoyed it.

To start I enjoyed the pre-concert dislogue with a few of the group. I have seen other tenor groups including Il Divo and clearly think this is the best. I drive up from Ocala for the concerts so I have high expectations. TTT hit a 10 (no pun).

This is the third time we have heard them. The first time was the best. This time the first half was good. They lost us in the second half because we just could not relate to the music. That was aimed at a younger audience. Their voices are fantastic and the opera always is lovely to listen to.

This was my second concert of The Ten Tenors and both times I was blown away by their performances. Fantastic show! Great voices, terrific selection of songs, good comedic routines. I recommend this concert to everyone I know.

The Ten Tenors program was simply delightful. All those young, strong voices blended together to produce an outstanding evening of music. In addition to the vocal quality, the entire stage production, action, and lighting added to the enjoyment. The range of music–from opera to rocka and roll–was impressive, and the group seemed equally at home whatever the genre was. My wife and I would love to see them again.

Absolutely marvelous performance! This is not your father’s “opera”! Bring your teenagers–I plan to do so next time and I will try to get seats in the front row. Thank you for bringing them to Gainesville!

It was wonderful, but at times really a little too loud. thank you, Dottie Stone

I thoroughly enjoyed the Ten Tenors! We attended the pre-show interviews as well. I will definitely attend their next visit to the Center. Thank you!

We so enjoyed the music when the tenors were singing in their normal singing voices. But ten tenors singing at their loudest was unbearable, so we had to leave.
November 10th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
The performance was fantastic. My wife and I enjoyed all of it very much.
November 10th, 2009 at 3:35 pm
The selections were great but the volume was far TOO loud. It was almost painful. Couple next to us left and friends behind turned off their hearing aids. I have a problem anyway with everything being miked these days, but these were over the top. I was in balcony-mezzazine; I can’t imagine how anyone could sit closer. I saw the TTT last time and so enjoyed them that I wanted to see them again.

We attended the performance of The Ten Tenors on November 3,2009 and thoroughly enjoyed them. We hope you’ll invite them back every year. We’ve seen them three times and will gladly buy tickets every time we have a chance to see them perform.
One technical note: We both felt the amplification was turned up too high, especially for the first half of the program. They have powerful voices which do not need that level of amplification. It was actually distracting. The Ten Tenors are great!

This is one of the best shows of the season. We saw it the last time they were here and it was as enjoyable this time. The talent level is awesome. The variety of numbers makes the performance accepted by all.
We would see them again.

The sound was much too loud for comfort!!!!
The lighting system was very uncomfortable and prevailed through out the performance.

An excellent performance by the Ten Tenors. Hope they will return to Gainesville soon.

i have seen them the three times they have been in Gainesville…they are just wonderful….

They are just great….have seen them 3 times and I never get tired

Having attended their performance last year [and bought their CD] we were eagerly looking forward to this year’s performance. We could not have been more disappointed. The sound was too loud, the music selection was trite almost patronizing and worst of all someone thought shining bright lights in the eyes of the orchestra patrons would be edgy. It was not. It was simply annoying. This is the only performance at the Phillips Center that we left at intermission. I hope, for the sake of the remaining audience, that the second half of the concert was better. I was not confident enough to endure more.

One of the best performances we have seen at the Phillips Center! Something for everybody. We were among the many who gave them a standing ovation. Bring them back as much as you can.
November 10th, 2009 at 7:30 pm
Personally, I was very disappointed! The lights were horrible and the volumne far too loud - even with my hearing aids turned off!!
The first half was better as far as I’m concerned thn the second half.
My genearation if showing!!

We attended the Ten Tenors Performance, last week. It was to be a very special treat, since we don’t often have the opportunity to do these kinds of things. Since we have sent a message to Michael Blachly and we have talked with him about our experience, it really isn’t necessary to go into details. Suffice it to say, the group is extremely talented, their presentation was exquisite but unfortunately, our experience at the Phillips Center was less than enthusiastic and certainly not up to the standards we have experienced in the past. Very simply, if the sound engineer had been paying attention to the decibel level during the first half, the performance of this extremely talented group could have been a delight.
Thank you for your interest in making future performances “outstanding”.
Sincerely, Jim & Kirby Zimmerman

The Ten Tenors were absolutely fabulous, but the lighting was downright painful. Fortunately I had my sunglasses with me, but I noticed several people sitting around me shielding their eyes from the sporadic piercingly bright spots directed right out onto the audience with their playbills. It was too bad that the lighting was so atrocious. I’m sure the intention was to add drama, not pain. The person sitting next to me was so disturbed by the bright lights that he did not return for the second act. Here’s a tip; if you see people in the audience covering their eyes during a performance, the lights might need to be adjusted.

I thoroughly enjoyed the TTT…They were handsome, entertaining, clever and with wonderful powerful voices… some more outstanding than others, but none weak and tame…..
It would have been interesting having the Sound System shut off for a song to hear the true character of their voices without the amplification.
November 10th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
One of the best shows I’ve ever seen.
November 10th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
The quality of The Ten Tenors was outstanding! Unfortunately the lighting prevented us from enjoying a wonderful performance. The lights were directed into the audience. . We kept our eyes closed almost the entire first half of the program. We had to leave during the intermission. We know of other people who also left during intermission. We really enjoyed the Tenors last year and were really looking forward to their performance this year.

The Ten Tenors were great, but I was not expecting all the “mood lights” that are prevalent at many youth-directed shows. It is apparent the the voices, solo or combined, are excellent.
However, the one thing that bother me and many of the patrons was that the volume was much too loud.
November 11th, 2009 at 11:39 am
One of the most entertaining performances we have attended at the center. The Ten Tenors are terrific: electric, charming, talented and able to capture the musical respect of any audience with diverse musical genres or ages.
Would definitely attend a repeat performance as well as recommend to others. Bring them back!!!
November 11th, 2009 at 12:54 pm
I recommend using supertitles as do operas for the opera selections to allow the audience to appreciate what the song is saying as well as the experience of hearing it sung so well.
November 11th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
We thoroughly enjoyed The Ten Tenors performance and are hopeful that they will requested for a return engagement. Their performances are always entertaining and their music selections demonstrate their range and versatility.
However, the lighting left something to be desired. It was directed too heavily towards the audience, making one feel as watching the performance at automobile head lights. Very questionable approach.

A very entertaining performance. First time to see them and would return to another performance. Totally enjoyable……..

UFPA extends its gratitude to our devoted patrons. Our staff takes audience input very seriously, and we appreciate all candid, balanced feedback. Recently, we received several comments regarding the sound quality of the Ten Tenors performance at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts on November 3.
As the first stop on the Ten Tenors’ North American tour, UFPA coordinated with their support staff on the technical aspects of the show. During the concert’s Intermission, we worked with their Audio Engineer to help him balance the sound volume with the acoustics of the Phillips Center. Based on feedback from audience members, our adjustments seemed to improve the sound quality for the second half of the performance.
Because of the size of our hall and the variety of performances we host, sound will continue to be an issue. The UFPA staff and management team are committed to enhancing the experience for every patron, at every performance. Thank you for your continued support.
