Broadway’s Tony Award-winning musical-comedy phenomenon takes you back to 1962 Baltimore, as 16-year-old Tracy Turnblad sets out to dance her way onto TV’s most popular show.
After an exciting debut at the Phillips Center in 2005 and a sold-out performance in 2006, the Soweto Gospel Choir returns to their “U.S. home” once again. Award-winning vocalists Nnenna Freelon from the jazz world and Harolyn Blackwell from the classical world will blend and shape their respective genres to celebrate the legacy and influences of the great Duke Ellington.
Joining these two stunning vocalists is noted pianist Mike Garson, whose work in both the jazz and classical worlds has made him the ideal arranger, accompanist, and musical director for this show. From J.S Bach to David Bowie, Garson’s boundless musical talents have made him one of the most in-demand pianists in jazz and pop.
Six-time GRAMMY® Award-nominee Nnenna Freelon has earned a well-deserved reputation as a captivating performer. In 2001 she inspired an enthusiastic standing ovation from 20,000 music-industry insiders and celebrities when she took the stage at the 43rd annual GRAMMY Awards.
Best known for his impressive skills as a pianist, Mike Garson is a respected composer and a budding computer artist. Embracing the idea of the “Renaissance Man,” Mike continually experiments with new ways through which he can communicate his humanistic ideals.
Hailed by audiences and critics alike as a “model of agility, spunk, charm, and silvery tone,” Harolyn Blackwell is a familiar performer at the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Seattle Opera, Glyndebourne and Aix-en-Provence.

A very exciting evening. I was embarrassed for the entertainers that the hall was not filled. They were great and it was a very nice evening.
