Did you know…
Carrie Newcomer’s new Rounder release, The Geography of Light, is about navigating and exploring the appearance of light and shadow in our lives. In a world that encourages us to move faster and think bigger, Newcomer invites the listener to slow down and reflect on the small things that make life worthwhile.
Newcomer toured with Alison Krauss and Union Station in Europe and the U.S. and recorded the title track of her 2002 The Gathering of Spirits album with Krauss. Krauss went on to introduce Nickel Creek to Newcomer’s song, I Should’ve Known Better, which the band recorded on their Grammy-winning, gold-selling album, This Side (produced by Krauss).
In 2007 Newcomer recorded a live concert DVD with folk legends Holly Near and Bernice Johnson Reagon, was commissioned to write the YMCA national theme song, composed music for the Indiana Repertory Theater’s production of Bad Dates, and collaborated with author Scott Russell Sanders and fellow songwriters Krista Detor, Tim Grimm, Tom Roznowski and Michael White in the album and theatrical production entitled Wilderness Plots.
Newcomer has presented workshops at dozens of campuses and venues around the U.S. and is often sought out for her unique perspective and ability to help participants reach deep inside to develop their own creative voice.

The new venue is great, including the sound. I love the idea of being so close to the performer and bringing in lesser known acts. Carrie Newcomer had a beautiful voice and a lot to say in her music.

What an angel. Her voice and stories made you feel like a part of the essence of the woman. To me she was a newcomer because I had not heard of her until this performance and what a performance it was. Thank you Carrie for a wonderful evening. As for the new Squitieri Studio Theatre, I loved, loved, loved it and look forward to my next visit.

Thank you for bringing Carrie Newcomer to Gainesville as I have longed to see her live performance since I have been a fan of her’s for years. She is a story teller and a gifted musician with much to say. She makes me want to look at each day as a new day with a miracle waiting around the next corner or under the rock that you have just walked over.
