Get ready to be transported to a magical, wonderful world! A world where the critics are in awe, the audiences are in heaven and the neighborhood is buzzing with excitement. Welcome to The Drowsy Chaperone, the new musical comedy that is swooping into town with tons of laughs and the most 2006 Tony Awards of any musical on Broadway! It all begins when a die-hard musical fan plays his favorite cast album, a 1928 smash hit called The Drowsy Chaperone, and the show magically bursts to life. We are instantly immersed in the glamorous, hilarious tale of a celebrity bride and her uproarious wedding day, complete with thrills and surprises that take both the cast (literally) and the audience (metaphorically) soaring into the rafters.

My guests and I thoroughly enjoyed The Drowsy Chaperone. This was a first time at the Phillips Center for my out of town guests. They are season ticket holders for the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and commented how much they enjoyed the Phillips Center.

  2. Phylis Craig says:

This was a wonderful performance. The set and costumes were very good. Thoroughly enjoyed the event.

  3. Bill Gobus says:

The show was very enjoyable. The lyrics were crisp and witty. I’m glad we didn’t miss this one.

  4. Kristin says:

This play was absolutely hilarious! I would watch it again and recommend it to others!

The beginning of the play was very difficult to hear - but 10 minutes or so into the musical, the sound was ‘fixed’ and was much more enjoyable.

  5. Robyn Crawford says:

I thought “The Drowsy Chaperone” was wonderful! What a unique story idea! The comedy was right on! Thanks for bringing it to Gainesville!

  6. Linda Singleton says:

Absolutely delightful performance loaded with talent, particularly the narrator.

  7. Andrew Ford says:

I saw the broadway original performance and I feel that the traveling performance was absolutely on par. Minor changes were made to make the show more portable, but ultimately it was just as good.

  8. Belinda Wurn says:

Unfortunately, the night of “Drowsy” Larry and I were both under the weather, so we didn’t enjoy it as much as I am sure we would have otherwise. I thought it was weird to not have an intermission as well.

On the other hand, we LOVED!!!! Riverdance!! What a fabulous and high energy show! Is it true that this is their last road trip? If they came back next year we would definitely see it again!

Keep up the good work. A good season over all so far.
