Take the A Train back to the days of Lindy-Hopping, Zoot suits, and Stompin’ at the Savoy in American Big Band. See the “big band story” come to life with all the best music, authentic costumes, colorful sets, and a talented company of singers, dancers and musicians. The sounds of Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and many more are sure to get you In the Mood with the very best of American Big Band.
The journey begins with a spectacular medley of tunes and dances made famous during the big band era. You’ll Sing, Sing, Sing while American Big Band’s dancers “cut the rug” with the Jitterbug, the Lindy Hop and the Shim Sham! The joint keeps jumpin’ with the music of the King of Swing, Benny Goodman – String of Pearls, Jersey Bounce, Goody Goody and many more – and with songs that made the Mills Brothers, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole and Cab Calloway household names – Mona Lisa, Straighten Up and Fly Right, and Paper Doll.
Next stop is the famous Cotton Club, where the music of Duke Ellington takes the stage with tunes including Take the A Train, Satin Doll and Don’t Get Around Much Anymore. The good times keep rolling with a series of salutes. This first is to Tommy Dorsey, Harry James, Artie Shaw, Count Basie, Guy Lombardo and other legendary big band leaders. The second salutes legendary female singers of the era including Doris Day, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. The final salute honors one of the most famous big band singers of all time, Frank Sinatra.
But what big band journey would be complete without a visit to the most popular bandleader of all time? Glenn Miller’s Moonlight Serenade, Pennsylvania 6-5000 and Tuxedo Junction set the tone for a memorable set featuring songs of WWII - In the Mood, The White Cliffs of Dover, American Patrol and Flying Home.
The last stop on American Big Band’s Sentimental Journey - today’s big band sounds, showcasing the vibrant music of the Brian Setzer Orchestra, Stray Cats, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies and a “modern twist” on the tune that started our journey, Sing, Sing, Sing!

Saw the performance last night (June 10). Great energy, great music, wonderful dances and voices.
Saw some of our high school student (16-18 yrs) in the audience. Best music around, the music today doesn’t have that staying power. Thanks for a wonderful evening.
