It’s 1985 and rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart is living in his grandmother’s basement, playing weddings with his band on weekends and getting ready to marry his high school sweetheart, Linda. But when Linda gets cold feet and leaves Robbie at the altar, New Jersey’s best wedding singer becomes every bride’s worst nightmare.
Robbie makes every wedding as miserable as his own until he meets Julia, a cute and bubbly waitress. The only problem? Julia is engaged to be married to a Wall Street shark with a penchant for dressing like Don Johnson’s character on Miami Vice. What’s a wedding singer to do? Simply pull off the performance of a lifetime and win the girl of his dreams, of course!
Based on the hit movie which starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, The Wedding Singer features Grow Old with You, the song written by Adam Sandler and Tim Herlihy for the movie, as well as a brand new score that pays homage to the pop hits of the 1980s.
Fun wedding trivia: What’s in his kiss?
The kiss dates back to the earliest days of civilization in the Middle East. A kiss was used as a formal seal to agreements, contracts, etc. In Ancient Rome, a kiss was still being used as the legal bond to seal contracts. Men and women were segregated in most cultures up until about 200 years ago. So, at a wedding ceremony, it could be assumed that a groom had never touched his bride. In a gender-segregated culture, only male family members are permitted to kiss female members. Therefore, the public demonstration of a kiss between a newlywed couple was a visual proclamation that the two were now family. The bridal kiss “seals” the marriage vow.

If this play is anywhere near as good as the movie, then I’m in!

Great show. My friend and I had a wonderful time!

A fun experience overall; a show with great energy. As the performance continued I began feeling like I was watching a dress rehearsal with lots of missed mike cues which made it hard to hear dialogue (and I was sitting close to the stage, too).

We thought the musical `extravaganza` of The Weddding Singer was better than the film. It exhibited energy, vibrance and humour that created a fun-filled musical experience. The audience reaction of delight, applause and admiration ensured that we all felt `part of the action`.
A great start to the season. To the Exec. and all the Staff of the U.of F. Performing Arts Well done !

Phyllis and I both loved the show. It was considerably better then we expected. The sets and scenery surprises were entertaining, the characters good and the dancing terrific. I think it may just make it to Broadway

Fantastic performance, with a lot of fun antics from the 80’s! The only drawback was the volume was up a little too much, at one point I thought my eardrums were going to burst.

Great show! But as Susannah writes “the volume was up” [much, much,
muchissimoooooh!!!!]. This show is not the first one where I and my
wife found the volume soooooh loud that understanding the dialogue
was difficult. Give us a chance to practice our listening skills- volume
glare is like the glare of light, you lose part of your perception.

It was a fantastic performance. The dancing, choreography, singing, orchestra, scenary…all were fantastic. A good start to the season.

This performance should be Broadway bound! The dancing was outstanding; the enthusiasm and acting of the performers were excellent; the sets were so in-tune with the 80’s!! What a fun and uplifting night!

Great show, but music volume drowns out dialogue.
Seems that mic and/or music volume is frequent problem at CPA.
