The Gainesville-based rockers, known for the hits All for You, Change Your Mind and Your Mistake, will perform tracks from their recent Christmas album, Santa’s Playlist.  Released September 25, the album features traditional holiday songs such as Merry Christmas Baby, I’ll Be Home for Christmas and Silent Night, alongside original tracks written by the band members themselves.

Opening the show will be Pat McGee (of the Pat McGee band), who will be performing solo acoustic and playing holiday music only.

The PK Yonge School Choir is performing as well as members of the Alachua Youth Orchestra.  Both schools are located in Gainesville.  A portion of the proceeds from CD sales of Santa’s Playlist that night will be split between the two organizations.

The Marines’ Toys For Tots will be at the show collecting donations.  Fan may bring an unwrapped toy to donate to disadvantaged children who may otherwise be overlooked this holiday season.  If fans wish to make a monetary donation instead, a collection box will be on site as well.

I found the combination of Sister Hazel and the local orchestra and choir groups to be a very enjoyable combination to watch and listen to. The audience was diverse but all seemed to have a good time.

  2. Rick Dietrich says:

Great show! Great job including some of the local youth musicians in the performance. The sound mix was great and not too loud. Could hear all the instruments and voices.

  3. Chris Lever says:

I loved the show. I sat Row D seats 109 & 110 and just wanted to comment on the sound. I found the sound quality to be on the muted side, almost dull in tone. It could have been a bit louder and higher in treble.

But it was a great show none-the-less

    Merry Christmas

    Chris

  4. Sharon M. Nichols, Ph.D. says:

I was so impressed with the quality and obvious attention to concert presentation detail of Ken Block and the others in the group, that I wrote a note of congratulations today to Al and Judy Block for the success and absolutely wonderful voice of their son.

My two adult children attended Brentwood, the school Al Block formed and that I credit with the learning success of both of my children. Throughout the years I knew of the hardships of their family and I do remember when Ken began Sister Hazel. I have been in Gainesville for over 30 years.

It was amazing that his voice and instrument playing was so professional and emotionally enthusiastic. These traits cannot be taught and I, as one person who followed his career and remain a fan of music from the 50’s through the 90’s to the present, was so moved by Ken’s voice especially.

The additional commitment to charity and the presence of the local high school accompaniments at every venue is so admirable and real. I admire them as people as well as unique artists that they are.

It was such a pleasure for me to share in the group’s hometown welcome and performance. I enjoy my “Sister Hazel” tee shirt and my way of advertising for them.

    Kudos.

    Sharon Nichols

  5. Tom Krynski says:

A lot of fun! Obviously a group with Gainesville ties like Sister Hazel is a feel good moment. Plus, the addition of the school groups was a nice touch. What a thrill for the kids. Only negative is all the people smoking in front of the entrance that you have to go through to get in the Center.

  6. Julia Thomas says:

The show was incredible!! Sister Hazel always puts on a good concert. They make you feel like they really are having fun and want you to have fun too!  One thing I wish I had known you were doing the TOYS FOR TOTS drive. It would have been nice if you had put the info in the email when you sent out the concert notice. If you didn’t know by then; you could have sent a follow-up notice.  Thanks.

  7. Anni Egan says:

What a wonderful way to begin the Holiday season! I attended with friends and we all enjoyed the performance immensely - not a bad seat in the house!

  8. Rachel Colbert says:

Sister Hazel had yet another great performance. I loved their community involvement by inviting the choir and ACYO members to participate. It added to the show. It was a great show that all ages could enjoy.

  9. Pam says:

As always, our boys from Gainesville did not disappoint. The combination of Holiday songs and some old favorites was great. Also, the fact that they are featuring a high school orchestra and chorus from each city they visit demonstrates the class that this group shows. The final shout out- “We are Sister Hazel from Gainesville, Florida” should make everyone proud. Thanks guys!

  10. Alison says:

My sister was part of the choir that sang with them, I was very proud. The show was awesome, I liked that they mixed it up with holiday songs and then also their hits. GREAT JOB! come back next year.

  11. Ashley says:

I told my mom all I wanted for my 18th birthday was to go see Ken Block and all the Sister Hazel boys. It worked out well that their concert was two days after my birthday and it was one of the coolest experiences. I brought my friend who wasn’t familiar with them and she loved it! They were no disapointments. I expected a lot and got soooo much more. Ken played through the pain after breaking his wrist at Westside. I took one nasty spill there as well (cuz I’m not a skater… I discovered.) The bruise on my butt hurt but the bruise on my pride was a little more painful so I ‘m right there with ya buddy. The only lame thing is that there were a lot of older people and wee little kids, which is cool, I love both of those but people weren’t getting really into it which bummed me out because when you suck at singing you still wanna sing a long and be drowned out by all the other sucky singers. lol Also I would have loved to meet them, I realllllyyy wanted to… REALLLLLYYYY! but certain people got little stickers and I wasn’t one of them :( I’m not one of the cool kids. I was gonna sit outside and wait like a physco fan but I had class in the morning and my friend had to go so… I was a little sad but I got a tshirt, that I live in, which brightened my spirits! lol. Awesome concert! Get their Christmas CD and check out track 14. Magic!
